Arabic Transliteration, “Wa la ghalib, Illallah” which means, “And there is no Victor except Allah”. This phrase is etched in hundreds of mosaic tiles which decorate the walls of the Alhumbra Palace in Granada, South of Spain built by Muslims in 889 CE. In this painting of the Kaaba, this phrase is added in collage form spiraling above the Kaaba in the sky.
The Kaaba is a cube looking building at the center of Islam's most important mosque in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. It is the most sacred site in Islam. Muslims do not worship the Kaaba, but it is Islam's most sacred site because it represents the metaphorical house of God and the oneness of God in Islam. Observant Muslims around the world face toward direction of the Kaaba during their five daily prayers.
