English transliteration, “Masha’Allah” which means "God has willed it". Muslims say this phrase upon hearing good news about a person or event. Muslims use it as an expression of appreciation, joy, praise or thankfulness for a person or event that is mentioned. This phrase also serves as a reminder to Muslims that all accomplishments are only achieved with the will of God. In some parts of the Muslim world people may utter this phrase as a remedy of protection against jealousy or envy, however, it is understood by Muslims that protection comes only from God.
